UNIPORT Killing Update

We informed you earlier today that following the lynching of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, River State, the police had arrested Aluu community leader, Alhaji Hassan Walewa.

Well, I just received a mail from a Simply Samad reader who maintained that contrary to the previous allegation that the lynched students stole a laptop, they had in fact gone to retrieve money owed by a debtor when things suddenly went wrong.

Here's the latest version of the story as sent in:

"The truth is finally out!!! One of the four boys lent a huge sum of money to one Aluu boy; who was a friend. The Aluu boy we gathered, had been avoiding his creditor for a long time in a calculated bid not to pay back the money he owed.

On the day they were killed, the UNIPORT student and his friends had intended to surprise his debtor very early in the morning so as to get his money. Things went bad when an argument ensued with the Aluu boy; who called in his own friends and together, they branded the UNIPORT student thieves and before you could say 'Jack Robinson, they had been lynched, some beaten to death and eventually set ablaze.

I have a simple question in all of this: 'Where is the laptop they allegedly stole or was that also burnt?"

Will the Nigerian police rise and do what they are paid to do or will this just add up to the statistics of wasted lives and leave the monsters who committed this atrocious act to roam the streets as free men? So many questions - so little answers.
